THE POWER OF PUTTING GOD IN CONTROL By Pablo Diaz.  Most people equate the word “surrender” to a negative action such as quitting or submitting to defeat. Yet those who are “in control” and take matters into their own hands are often praised by our media. The irony of this is that, over time, we all age or get ill and must surrender part, if not all, control to others. The dictionary defines “surrender” as “to yield (something) to the possession or power of another; deliver up possession on demand or under duress.” We humans are naturally resistant to giving our power to others. We want to be economically, professionally and even personally self-sufficient. But it is this same spirit that can keep us from fully committing ourselves spiritually or wanting to give ourselves completely to anyone. And this thought process goes against what it means to whole-heartily follow, submit and give our all to God. When we resist handing over full control of our lives to God, we miss out. It is only when we surrender and give our all, that we begin to grow as someone not possessed by materialistic things or power, but by love, peace and grace. This is when giving becomes more important than receiving. Jesus said, “Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.”   Why such an expectation and demand? Unless we surrender our personal power and will, it’s difficult to be under His Lordship. But when we finally let go, we experience the power of surrendering to a gracious, loving God whose greatest desire is to help us live to the fullest. God, help me to give You my all so that I may experience the power to be completely under Your leadership.
